156-AllStarz

_

In the short time i've been covering art shows , I've had the opportunity to meet various talented artist and photographers , as well as check out some really dope art pieces . However , I've never actually been to an actual graffiti graffiti show ( the irony, right?). With help from my cousin we figured it was time to rectify that situation.

So this art adventure began and took us to the birth place of it all.  THE BOOGIE DOWN BRONX!!!!! This was to attend the 30th anniversary of the 156-ALLSTARSZ crew showry. Bryan1276 and I trekked 11 blocks in the bitter cold to make to this show . A few wrong left turns later and we made it to the Bronx Museum of Art. I will say this in advance , my knowledge about the bronx is limited beyond the Bronx Zoo, Botanical  Garden and Yankee Stadium, so i was a bit skeptical when i was told it was at a museum. I was expecting a hole in the wall gallery Show. i will admit i was pleasantly suprised with what i walked into .

For those who don't know, here's a quick back story. The 156 crew came together back in the 80's (156th street and Broadway , hence the name) by original members JON ONE, RAC7 and KYLE. The crew later continued to grow not only in number but notoriety as well and eventually branched out worldwide. While the crew members may have changed over the years the objective still stayed the same, keeping the legacy alive and making some dope art along the way.

Within 30 minutes the spot was packed from wall to wall with black books being passed back and forth along with pounds and hugs  everyone checking out all the art work . The drinks started flowing and the old school hip hop had everyone's head bumping courtesy of DJ legends Large Professor and DJ ohsokool (even Jazzy Joyce made a special guess appearance ).

While Bryan was schooling me on who's who of the graffiti world, I couldn't hwlp but notice the diverse crowd of people in the room. I dont just mean the group of graffiti legends walking around, but people from all races and cultures coming together and just enjoying art and each other's company. Over all, I had a great time . The vibe was electric with not only legends in the room but also the presence ofthe present day writers/artist and even future up and comers. As far as my favorite art piecce, i couldn't pick just one because there were just so many artist and styles featured. All of them did a great job as whole putting this event together. Shout out to the 156 Allstarz Crew.
